Since the Renaissance, every work of art has tackled themes worthy of aesthetic expression, concepts of artistic value—posing new questions, reflecting on new techniques of painting and sculpting styles, new harmonies and consonances in music, mastering unusual gestures and habits, different genres and quality criteria.

Along with this, philosophers like David Best, Wolfgang Welsch, and Lev Kreft initiated the theoretical application of the concept of art to areas lying completely outside the artistic field, within the aesthetics of the everyday, proposing to perceive sports as an art form.

Feminist aesthetics also advocated including types of senses beyond the usual sight and hearing into the field of aesthetics, which can also contribute to creating aesthetic experience—for example, taste (Carolyn Korsmeyer) and smell (Emily Brady).
